Day 1
After an unnecessarily stressful rental car pickup, we headed north to our first stop at Sea Ranch Lodge. We didn’t make it in time for our 1:30 lunch reservation – so we picked up In-N-Out burgers on the way (any good CA road trip has to make this stop at some point anyways), and walked around the lodge property.
Continuing on, our destination for night 1 was Shelter Cove at the southern tip of the Lost Coast.
Day 2
We arrived in Shelter Cove the prior night in total darkness, but we knew this town would be special by the continuous barking of seals outside our hotel room keeping us awake (at least Julia) at night.
We planned to use the day to explore the Lost Coast with an out and back hike, going as far as we felt like going, with no real plan otherwise. The trailhead parking lot was a tiny lot overlooking the coast with a handful of other cars there.
